ORIGINS Cafaselva is an alternative that was founded and continues to grow in Chavarrillo since May of 2003, as a joint volunteer initiative that offers ecotourism services concerning the conservation and the defense of natural resources, culture, and tradition. Chavarrillo is a special place for people who enjoy hiking, leading towards different parts of the town, paths between coffee plantations, virgin forest, or direct views of waterfalls and lookouts that together make up an enormous natural richness, plants in danger of extinction, orchids and a great diversity of birds that include the tucan, the trogan, hummingbirds, and the vermillion flycatcher; a richness that the majority of the citizens of Chavarrillo have tried to conserve and are now inviting you to enjoy. Cafaselva is currently made up of 36 people, children, teenagers, and adults; it was constructed with 21 people at the end of 2003. The group now develops activities in coordination with the citizens who contribute important time representing the town. When developing tourist activities, the value and conservation of natural resources is kept in mind, this is achieved through general activities of natural conservation, culture, and tradition within the town and the region. The region has 42 identified orchid species, locally protected cicads, 273 listed species of birds, the cultivation of shade grown coffee; all in a diverse environment present near the town of Barranquilla Chavarrillo and the Tepeapulco hill. Some of the tourist activities that Cafaselva offers include: GENERAL OBJECTIVES OF THE ORGANIZATION:
